St John’s Nursing Home Limited was fined £80,000 and ordered to pay £3,474 prosecution costs, plus a £170 victim surcharge at at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on 3 February in a prosecution brought by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Woman fined for running West Yorkshire care agency illegally

A woman who ran a Morley-based domiciliary care agency has been ordered to pay over £12,000 after she admitted to providing care illegally.

Beverley Bevis was fined £1,500 at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 7 January 2021. She was also ordered to pay £10,380.91 costs and a £170 victim surcharge as a result of the prosecution brought by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Prior to her sentencing, Mrs Bevis pleaded guilty to providing a regulated activity – personal care – in people’s own homes through her company, Five Star Homecare Leeds Ltd, without CQC registration. This is a criminal offence.

Hampshire care home to pay £167, 670 after failing to provide safe care

Hampshire care home ordered  to pay £167, 670 after failing to provide safe care.

A care provider has been ordered to pay £167,670 at West Hampshire Magistrates’ Court, after a 56-year-old man died from legionella disease while in their care.

Sentinel Health Care Limited, which runs the Fordingbridge Care Home in Fordingbridge, Hampshire pleaded guilty to two charges, firstly failing to provide safe care and treatment, resulting in avoidable harm to resident  while he was at the home

The company has also pleaded guilty to failing to provide safe care and treatment exposing other service users, to a significant risk of avoidable harm.
Sentinel Health Care Limited was fined £75,000 for each charge and ordered to pay £17,500 prosecution costs, plus a £170 victim surcharge in a prosecution brought by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

This is the first time CQC has used its prosecution powers against a provider in a case where a person has contracted Legionella.

Woman arrested trying to take 97-year-old mother out of care home.

A 73-year-old woman was temporarily arrested & restrained by police after she attempted to take her 97-year-old mother out of a care home.
Video footage shared on social media by former Coronation Street actress Leandra Ashton appeared to capture part of the incident in a car park in Market Weighton, East Yorkshire.
In the two clips an upset Ms Ashton claims she & her mother had taken her grandmother out of the home where she is “deteriorating”, because they had not seen her for nine months.

…..Officers then returned the elderly lady to the home .
The 73-year-old lady was then immediately unrestrained, de-arrested & allowed to return home with her daughter.

Surrey care home fined £100,000 after failing to provide safe care.

A care provider Sunrise Operations Esher Ltd  Fined £100,000 & Costs of £25,575.87 plus  £170 victim surcharge at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, following an  incident which led to a 92-year-old woman being assaulted by another person living at the service whilst she was nursed in bed.
This led to her being hospitalised &  requiring treatment for her injuries.

Care home fined £200,000 after 89-year-old lay on floor with fractured hip for up to two hours.

A care provider in Cheshire has been fined £200,000, after Chester Magistrates Court found it had failed to provide safe care for a 89-year-old resident who was left lying on the floor for up to two hours with a broken hip.

Vivo Care Choices Ltd which runs Curzon House in Saltey, near Chester, had previously pleaded guilty to the criminal  offence of failing to provide safe care & treatment.
The court also ordered Vivo Care Choices Limited to pay a £170 victim surcharge & costs £19,305.94 as a result of the prosecution brought by the CQC. More

A Scarborough care home owner has been fined following an incident in which a 99-year-old man died after falling from his bedroom window in 2017.
Comfy Care Homes Limited, which runs Norwood House in Scarborough, was fined £80,000, costs of £23,137.81,  plus a £170 victim surcharge at York Magistrates’ Court  in a
